CHITRAL-A large number of flood and earthquake victims protested against the federal government for reneging on the promise made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to remit the victims’ agricultural loans.

They held the protest and staged a sit-in in front of Agricultural development Bank’s Chitral branch and chanted slogans against the government. The meeting was held under the chair of former Nazim Shokoor. Addressing the protest the sit-in, the flood and earthquake affected people said that during his visit last year, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced compensation of Rs500,000 each for those whose houses were fully damaged and remission of agricultural loans of the farmers.

They said that a few affected people had so far been compensated with only Rs200,000 instead of Rs500,000 and Zari Tarqiati Bank is still harassing them and insisting for return of their loan.

Former MPA and president of PML-N Saeed Ahmad Khan said that PM Nawaz Sharif had already announced for waiving of their loans got from ZTB but its notification is still not issued.

The ZTB Manager confirmed that they have not received any notification from head office and that is why they still demanding for returning of these loans. He said, “Until we not receive any notification in this regard we cannot remit these loans.

A farmer said that they had got loans from ZTB for agriculture purposes but their land were washed away by flood and their standing crops including cultivable land were destroyed by natural disaster as well as their houses were also ruined by heavy earthquake. They have nothing to pay to ZTB, he said. Flood and earthquake affected demanded from PM Nawaz Sharif for issuing of notification of remittance in this regard.
