Alvi calls for research, innovation based education

LAHORE   -  President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday called for adequate steps by the universities in order to promote research and innovation-based education in the country. Addressing the briefing meeting at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) here, the President said that the higher education institutions should make students prepare according to the needs of the fourth industrial revolution. The Rector briefed the president about the role of LUMS in promotion of higher education in the country. The President also stressed upon that universities should increase their collaboration with other higher education institutions internationally and locally. He said that liaison between the HEC and universities needed to be strengthened further to promote quality education. He said that the online education system of universities should also be improved and enhanced to ensure quality distance education. The President said that the government was taking special steps for educational development in the country, adding that it had introduced Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program for 50,000 students. The President appreciated the efforts and services of the LUMS for promoting quality education in the country. The meeting was attended by LUMS Vice Chancellor Dr Arshad Ahmad, Additional Secretary Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, and representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
