LAHORE The Lahore High Court Bench will resume Tuesday (today) further hearing of a petition which challenges appointment of Rana Zahid Mehmood as Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab. Earlier on Monday, the chief justice taking up the petition of Faisal Farooq, directed the petitioners counsel Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique to file the petition afresh along with impugned notification regarding the appointment of Rana Zahid Mehmood and other necessary documents. Mr. Siddique filed the fresh petition last day which was fixed before a division bench comprising Justice Ch. Iftikhar Chaudhry and Justice Sheikh Ahmad Farooq. The lawyer had pleaded that appointment of Mr Zahid was made on contract in violation of rules and regulations so the step by the government was illegal and unlawful and liable to be declared null and void. The petitioner contended that the appointment of the respondent was in violation of judgment of Supreme Court and the constitution of Pakistan. Petitioner said that the respondent was removed as judge from Lahore High Court following a landmark judgment of the apex court on a petition moved by Sindh High Court Bar Association. The petitioner contended that the SC had declared contract appointments against law and constitution, therefore, the appointment of the respondent is also unconstitutional. He alleged that Rana Zahid was a close relative of Rana Qaiser Nazir, an accused in Canal Motors case, being investigated by the NAB.
