ICCI for food control mechanism

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Monday stressed the need for developing a food security mechanism and urged the government to impose or tighten price controls system and cut food import duties to provide relief to people. "Soaring food inflation is making the lives of millions of working class and poor miserable," ICCI President Mahfooz Elahi said and urged the government to adopt appropriate food security policies and provide relief to poor. On the discussion, ICCI Vice President, Adil Anees said that the high food prices reverse all the gains achieved in poverty reduction as food expenditures comprise a large share of poor's total expenditures.
