PALLEKELE - A Pakistani journalists landed in temporary police detention because of mistaken identity when he arrived at the Colombo airport from Karachi on Saturday to cover the ongoing World Cup. According to the personal account of Faisal Shahzad who was detained at the airport immediate after arriving at Colombo, the immigration police detained him because the police was in look out for a person named Faisal who allegedly was wanted for some interrogation by the police. The Sri Lankan police already had information that Faisal wanted by it was arriving at Colombo the same night. When the flight from Karachi arrived at Colombo the police on public address system announced if there was one person named Faisal. The Pakistani journalists in his innocence went to the police desk and told them he was Faisal. The police advised him to collect his luggage and come with them to a room inside the arrival terminal where he was kept and asked him a number of questions. They treated him well but made all the queries that they needed. Some of the colleagues of Faisal Shahzad who had come with him when came to know that their colleague has been detained contacted Pakistani mission in Colombo. The press attach of the mission Daud Ehtesham made contacts with the officials and came to know that the luggage of Faisal Shahzad had been released. Enquiries were made with the ICC which informed that Faisal Shahzad was an ICC card holder and had come to Sri Lanka to cover matches of Pakistan. The PCB media manager Nadeem Sarwar who is in Colombo also helped the journalist who was released on Sunday morning. Faisal Shahzad arrived here at Pallekele on Monday morning on the ICC bus from Colombo along with a number of Pakistani colleagues to cover Pakistan Zimbabwe match.
