KARACHI - Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (Prgmea) has expressed serious concern over the lethargic behaviour of the State Bank of Pakistan towards paying duty drawbacks of textile exporters The textile sector has been facing a liquidity pressure due to a massive surge in the prices of cotton in international market. Moreover, delay in the disbursements of the duty drawback claims by the SBP is adding miseries to textile exporter/manufacturers. In a statement issued on Monday, Pregmea Zonal Chairman Mohammad Jawed Chinoy said the Ministry of Finance has disbursed over Rs1.5 billion to the State Bank of Pakistan last month to pay the duty drawback claims of exporters. But this money is still lying with the State Bank of Pakistan. The central bank has sought clarifications from the ministry in order to disburse this amount but after the departure of last Minister of Textile Industry, Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed Khan nothing has been done in this regard. The State Bank of Pakistan should immediately sort out the problems and start paying the exporters who are passing through serious financial crunch, he demanded.
