PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday admitted an adjournment motion for discussion, wherein the mover said that not a single development project had been completed in earthquake affected areas in Hazara division despite a lapse of seven years after the tragedy.

Speaker Kiramatullah Chagharmati admitted the adjournment motion of the PML-N Javed Abbasi for discussion. Responding to various questions raised by the lawmakers and opposition leader Akram Khan Durrani, the KPK Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour said that the province would export 400,000-ton sugar. He told the house that the chief minister had also directed minister for industries to present reports regarding the problems of sugarcane growers in DI Khan after discussing their problems in the cabinet meeting.

On his turn earlier, the Opposition Leader Akram Khan Durrani, on a point of order, pointed that the sugar mills in district Bannu had not paid any payment to the sugarcane growers resulting in disappointment and unrest among them.

He observed the ministers were assuring the members but no one was taking any action on the ministers’ assurances.

He said no body would respect them if the responsible people would not restore the prestige of the democratic institutions.

Earlier, the members severely criticised performance of the Health Department and absence of minister for health but the debate turned into jokes when the Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab quoted a saying of the Holy Prophet that the backbiters and accusers should be punished 80 lashes.

He said since the minister was not present, they should wait for him instead of committing backbiting. The PML-N’s Shazia Aurangzeb asked the chair to refer the problems of MNCH employees to standing committee to immediate solve their problem.

The chair kept all motions about health department pending till the arrival of minister. The PML-Q Nighat Orakzai expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of wards in LRH asking the health minister to improve the condition of the ward. Later, the speaker suspended the assembly for an indefinite time.
