KARACHI- Five people including activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed in separate acts of target killing and violence in different parts of the metropolis on Monday.

An activist of MQM was shot dead near Rubi Moor Baldia within the precincts of Saeedabad police station. The incident took place at sector 9 Baldia, where 45-year-old Rana Asif son of Ghulam Rasool was shot dead by unknown gunmen.

Culprits managed to flee after committing the crime while residents were shifting him to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead. DSP Abdul Haq Bhutto said victim was an active worker of MQM unit 112-B, Baldia sector. Police quoted eyewitness saying that both assailants were wearing helmets when they intercepted the victim’s motorbike.

He informed that the motive for the murder is yet to be ascertained. Tension engulfed the surrounding area and shops closed due to uncertain conditions. No case was registered till filing of this report.

A transporter was shot dead in Frontier Colony Orangi Town within the limits of Pirabad police station. The victim, 42-year-old Gulab Khan, son of Shah Wali Khan was a resident of Sher Khan Abad Qasba Colony, he was going home with his son on his loading pickup, when two armed men on a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets near Rahmania Clinic. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities. Police official said the victim used to ran a transport business. Victim’s brother Mukhtiar gave statement that the victim had enmity with some relatives named Naveed, Ejaz and Janata and suspected their involvement in the murder.

They said victim’s son Atang remained safe in the incident the culprits only targeted Gulab Khan. Victim hailed from Peshawar and was the father of seven children. After completing the medico legal formalities police handed over his body to the heirs.

Similarly, in another incident a chicken shop owner was shot dead in Liaquatabad, in the limits of Super Market police station. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday when 50-year-old Mukhtiar Qureshi son of Ibrahim Qureshi was standing in his poultry shop, where labourers were unloaded chicken from a truck, when an armed man on a motorcycle, opened fire at him.

He received a head injury and died on the spot. The body was shifted to ASH for medico legal formalities. SHO Mumtaz said victim was the resident of the same area where the incident took place, adding that eyewitness said when the armed man reached him and pulled out a pistol, Mukhtiar thought that he was there to mug him and offered him his wallet and cell phone but the man shot him. Officer said the victim was married three times and there used to be a lot of family fights. Later police handed over his body to the heirs.

Separately a young man was stabbed to death during a fight in Haji Jannat Gull Town within the precincts of Sohrab Goth police station.

The victim 22-year-old Arif son of Haji Sehar Gull Khan was the resident of Haji Jannat Gull Town near Al Asif Square, while he was sitting with his friends near his home when a fight broke out and his friend attacked him with a dagger, he was seriously injured. After committing the crime his friend managed to flee the scene. Police shifted the injured to ASH for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said victim was a drug addict and at the time of the incident he was taking drug with his friend and under the influence of drugs they fought which ended in Arif’s death. Victim was unemployed and his family members took his body after completing legal formalities. No case was registered till filing the report.
