ISLAMABAD -President Asif Ali Zardari Monday chaired a meeting to review measures adopted to overcome energy crisis in the country and discuss circular debt issue.

According to presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, Federal Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar, Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Dr Asim Hussain and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh attended the meeting.

Naveed Qamar briefed the meeting about the steps being taken to cope with loadshedding, the spokesperson said, adding that the minister informed the sitting about power generation situation.  Asim Hussain told the meeting about availability of furnace oil and gas to the power plants.

The president issued directives to address the issues raised by the Petroleum Minister. The Finance Minister gave briefing on the issue of circular debt.

The President stressed the need for enhanced coordination among departments concerned to overcome electricity shortfall to address public woes.The meeting decided to direct the Nepra and Ogra to put in place the system of bulk metering of electricity and gas.

The President also directed the ministers concerned to meet him regularly and inform him about the situation. HE said that he would continue holding such meetings.
