RAWALPINDI - The water crisis in Sector-III of Gulshanabad is getting worse day by day, but authorities are doing nothing to solve the issue.

Demanding an immediate solution, scores of residents of the area staged a protest demonstration in front of Abad Cooperative Housing Society Head Office here on Monday.

The irate protestors, including old aged and children, were holding placards and banners mentioning words in their favour, chanted slogans against the criminal mum of Secretary Gulshanabad Housing Society and other concerned people.

The protestors also blocked main road for traffic causing immense troubles for the pedestrians and commuters.

According to Muhammad Razzaq Advocate, a resident of Sector III, there has been acute water shortage in most wards for the last three months. “The crisis has worsened in the last ten days.  We have knocked on many doors including that of the Secretary of the society. But nothing has been done yet,” he said. Aleem-ud-Din, another resident, said that their life has become worst because of non availability of water as neither they could take bath in soaring weather nor wash their clothes and houses.

“We are being forced to buy water from tankers. But it is also difficult for us to buy water tankers against Rs 1200 to 1400. Second thing is that the water being supplied by the tanker owners is not potable,” he said.

, while threatening:

“If no solution is found, we will intensify our protest.”

Abad Cooperating House Society Secretary Muhammad Tufail did not respond when this scribe made a phone call on his cell number (03005008787) to know his point of view about water crisis.

INP adds: Many parts of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board have been facing water shortage, which is troublesome for the dwellers.

The residents talking to INP complained that water shortage accompanied by unannounced loadshedding in this hot summer multiplies their miseries saying that they were left with no other option but to take to roads.

Expressing outrage over water shortage, residents complained low water pressure besides water suspension.

On the other hand, Cantt Board officials said 12-14 hours unannounced loadshedding was the main reason behind water shortage. They demanded station commander to take notice of water shortage and ensure provision of adequate water supply.
