LAHORE - The Punjab government would start implementing roadmap for Skills Development in the beginning of the next fiscal year.
Addressing the launching ceremony of short term courses in cooking and baking, restaurant management, office management, advance food production, fundamentals of IT and English language learning courses of five months duration at TDCP Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management on Wednesday, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that half a million young male and female students would be imparted skills in different technical and vocational trades to enable them to benefit from the vast opportunities of employment both within the country and abroad.
These courses have been arranged under the Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Programme in collaboration with National Vocational Training and Technical Education Commission (NAVTTEC). Initially, 273 youngsters have been selected in the first phase of this programme to get skill in hotel management this year. The trainees would be given monthly stipend of Rs.2000/- while the government would bear the entire expenditure of Rs.14000/- per trainee during the five-month duration. Such type of skills development related to hotel management would be arranged twice in a year and youngsters up to the age 18 to 35 years having middle level educational qualification would be eligible to get admission in these certificate courses at five Institutes of Tourism and Hotel Management being run by TDCP in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan informed participants that annually 25000 youngsters would be imparted training under Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Programme.
At present, the government of Punjab was imparting technical and vocational training to over two lakh students on its own. He vowed to enhance capacity of technical education and vocational training institutes to meet the increasing demand of skilled manpower in Middle East and Australia. He said that the government was preparing the new generation not only for employment with a variety of organization but for starting new businesses on their own.
Acting Managing Director TDCP Javed Akhtar Mahmood, General Manager (Admn) Ms. Afshan Imtiaz, GM (Operation) Sheikh Tanvir Jabbar and Programme Director Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management Faisalabad Qurat-ul-Ain also attended the ceremony.
