Rawalpindi - The newly formed Muhafiz Squad conducted a flag march on city’s roads on Thursday to create sense of security among the citizens and to make scare the criminals.
The flag march was supervised by SSP (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik along with DSP City Circle Sardar Babar Mumtaz and DSP Traffic City Tariq Mehboob. The well-equipped Muhafiz Squad riding on motorcycles began flag march from Police Line 1 and culminated at the starting point after patrolling on Peshawar Road, Bakery Chowk, Ratta Amral, Ganjmandi Road, Raja Bazaar, Taj Company Square, Liaquat Road, College Road, Committee Chowk, Murree Road, Moti Mehal, Tipu Road, Rawal Road and Airport Road.
SSP (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik while talking to The Nation said that the Muhafiz Squad was formed to curb street crime, house robberies, dacoities, car lifting and mobile and purse snatching. He said that a total of 40 Muhafiz Squads would guard the citizens by patrolling on roads and in streets in two shifts round-the-clock. “Each Muhafiz Squad will be comprised two motorcycles with four cops headed by a head constable while it will be supervised by an officer of SI rank,” he said.
He said that the beat in-charge would be responsible if any criminal activity reported in his area. He said that there would be close coordination among the Muhafiz Squad to curb crime.
He said that SHOs of police stations would monitor them.
Earlier, Karamat Ullah Malik, while addressing the Jawans of Muhafiz Squad, ordered them to protect lives and valuables of citizens on roads and streets. He asked them to shoot the criminals without any hesitation if they spotted any robbery or dacoity. “Do not stop noble citizens on roads to frisk them or tease them,” he said, adding there was a general hold up against applied for Honda 125 motorcycles in the city and strict action would be taken against those people plying such unauthorised motorcycles.
He said that strict action would be taken against those involved in corrupt practices.
