LAHORE - Wapda, Army, PAF and Navy have moved into next stage of the ongoing 48th National Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship matches played here at the Wapda Sports Complex Thursday.

Wapda beat Balchistan 25-18, 25-20, 25-15, Army defeated Punjab 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, PAF outclassed Fata 25-11, 25-11, 25-11 and Navy outplayed Police.

For Wapda, it was not an easy win against Balochistan, who gave them tough resistance. After losing the first set, Balochis fought hard in the second set forcing Wapda, comprising international players like Naseer, Mohib and Akhtar Ali who demonstrated their experience and game plan to win the match. From Balochistan, Kamal, Farman and Obaid smashed brilliantly and blocked hits from their opponents effectively.

Punjab had no match with Army, who humbled them easily in a straight game in the second match. Amjad, Waseem, Usman and Irfan smashed forcefully, blocked smashed of their opponents effectively. Their services were also excellent. From Punjab, Saleem and Faisal showed some form in the match.

PAF snubbed Fata in a straight game. The airmen completely dominated the match from the beginning. Faisal, Sayyad Khan, Ismail and Junaid performed superbly. Fata succumbed to their inexperience, wrongly placed smashes and poor boosting. Inamullah, Mohammedullah and Nur earned most of points for FATA.

Unlike their match with Army on Wednesday, Police failed to impress with their performance in the last match of the day against Navy. After submitting two sets easily they, however, gave hard time to Navy in the third set. Thrill touched heights as both the teams demonstrated excellent smashes, services and boosting in the middle. Navy men, however, curbed the nerves and won the third set as well but with a point margin.

Today’s matches: Fata vs Balochistan, Police vs Punjab, Wapda vs Fata and Army vs Navy.
