Islamabad - Chinese Ambassador to Islamabad Sun Weidong said that Pakistan and his country embarked on historic journey of peace and prosperity by signing milestone agreements during president Xi’s visit to Islamabad last month.

He said after the signing of historic agreements, the two countries are committed to implementing them in the best possible forms and as quickly as possible. The Pakistan-China Economic Corridor envisaged in the recently signed agreements would be mutually beneficial. This would usher in era of prosperity and economic development in all parts of Pakistan.

The ambassador was addressing the 14th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition at the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad.

Ambassador Sun Weidong said friendship between Pakistan and China touches new heights with the passage of time. He was confident that it would continue growing from generation to generation. He noted that the Chinese youth using internet introduced a new term ‘Iron Brothers’ to portray the depth and strength of the friendship between the two countries.

The Chinese ambassador said Pakistan and China believe that they should continue efforts to further strengthen their multidimensional cooperation. He said the ultimate objective of China is to promote peace and prosperity not only for its own people but the whole world.

Regarding President Xi’s recent visit to Pakistan, he said it opened a new chapter in the bilateral relations. “Pakistan is the top priority of Chinese diplomacy,” he added.

He highly lauded the role of NUML in strengthening Pakistan, China cooperation by promoting Chinese language and culture. He welcomed the opening of NUML International Center of Education (NICE) at the Shinjiang Normal University, Urumqi, China.

Director General NUML Brig. Azam Jamal in his welcome address said the NUML takes pride in contributing to friendly relations between Pakistan and China.

“It was a matter of pride for NUML that it signed an MoU and an agreement in the presence of Chinese president during his last month’s visit to Islamabad. He said the NUML’s project to set up international centre of education at Shinjiang Normal University, Urumqi, China is the only project from Pakistan to China as part of the Economic Corridor while all other projects are from China to Pakistan.

Rector NUML Maj. Gen. (Retd) Masood Hassan and Director General Brig. Azam Jamal joined the Chinese ambassador to distribute prizes among the winners of the competition.
