ISLAMABAD - Directing to undertake only those projects directly benefitting the general public, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that all projects initiated under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) should be completed within the given timeframe to avoid increased expenditure.

The prime minister chaired a meeting to review the PSDP here at the PM House on Thursday. In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister said that all projects should be completed within the given timeframe as delays invariably result in increased expenditure.

Efforts should be made to fully and efficiently utilize development funds, he said. The prime minister emphasized that only those projects should be undertaken which have been duly approved and directly benefit the general public. During his presentation on the occasion, Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal said the government is in final stages of finalizing next year’s budget including PSDP.

 He gave the prime minister an overview of the PSDP spending of the current financial year as well as proposed allocation for the next fiscal year.

The prime minister approved that unspent PSDP amount of the current financial year, as well as the savings identified by various Ministries may be allocated to priority projects to ensure their early completion.

He said maximum utilization of the allocated PSDP funds should be ensured so that development projects are undertaken in all parts of the country benefitting the masses.

He further directed that funds be allocated in a proper manner where they are most needed. He directed Secretary Aviation to take steps for improvement in the service of PIA including better transportation buses, better entertainment programs for passengers on their seats, cutting delays in transportation of luggage, good quality food and provision of Wi-Fi on planes.
