Rawalpindi - At least 88 graduates were awarded degrees at the second convocation of Yusra Medical and Dental College (YMDC) yesterday.
Of 88, four graduates were conferred gold and silver medals. Four gold medals were awarded to Dr Salman Habib Roghani for student of the year. The other gold medallists were Dr Sidra, Dr Eeza and Dr Zakria Amjad.
Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javed Akram was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr M Amjad Chaudhry, Registrar SZABMU, YMDC Principal Brig (Retd) Dr Sultan Muzafar, Yusra Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (YIPS) Principal Dr Sammar Akhtar, Dr Hammad Ahmed, health professionals, faculty members, parents and students were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, VC SZABMU/PIMS Prof Dr Javed Akram said that the university and college were entrusted with the responsibility of creating and disseminating knowledge.
He said that SZABMU was striving to provide opportunities for academic development and promote research in all health-related spheres. “The university and college, with their skill-driven programes, can make a valuable contribution to the public as well as private health sectors across the world,” the VC added. “I am delighted to attend the convocation and to acknowledge the hard work of students.
The degrees will open vast avenues of personal and professional development,” he said.
He congratulated the graduates and advised them to treat their patients with care and honesty. “
I believe that today’s graduates are the potential workforce of the health sector,” said VC Prof Dr Javed Akram.
Earlier, YMDC Principal Brig (Retd) Dr Sultan Muzafar delivered welcome address and presented college’s annual report.
He said that the college had nurtured competence by prioritising learning and innovation and preparing visionary leaders. He added that the college had participated in several researches and organised several conferences.
During the convocation, some 88 students were awarded MBBS degree with four gold and silver medals to position holder students. At the end, YMDC Principal awarded college souvenir to VC SZABMU/PIMS.
Talking to The Nation, Dr Javeria said that she was delighted to attend the convocation and obtained MBBS degree. She added that it was acknowledgment for the hard work of students. “I will serve my patients with commitment and dedication,” she said.
