ISLAMABAD - Inhabitants of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have demanded to shift auto workshops set up in different areas of these cities outside of the residential areas.
Talking to APP, the residents complained that existence of these workshops in residential areas create health, noise and other problems for them. These auto workshops mostly exist around public parks and in the flats built for residential purposes. The auto workshops cause noise pollution and irk the residents.
The residents have urged the concerned authorities to shift the auto workshops outside of the residential areas. Muhammad Qasim, a resident of sector G-7 said that workshops situated in the locality are creating noise pollution. The workers struck hammers with full force, which hit their minds directly. “We have brought the matter into the notice of the concerned authorities but no positive action has yet been taken to shift workshops from residential areas,” he added.
Mukhtar Ahmad another resident of Khayaban-e-Sir Syed voiced their concern over existence of workshops in residential areas. “It disturbs our sleep. Some of the workshops remain open till late night, which cause noise pollution during sleep”.
Sulman Kashif said that workshops in residential areas all over the twin cities are doing business for years but the civic body has never bothered to remove these.
When contacted CDA, spokesman of CDA admitted the existence of auto workshops in residential areas. He said there is no alternative place in the city to shift these workshops. A strategy should be evolved for shifting their business to commercial areas, he added.
