MULTAN/SHEIKHUPURA/NOORPUR THAL

Over 80 processions of Alam and Zuljinnah took place in Multan on Thursday, the 9th of Muharram, to commemorate the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), family members and companions.

Strict security arrangements were made by the district administration to avert any untoward incident as heavy contingents were deployed on the routes of all processions while roads leading to the venue of majlis were also blocked by the district police. The mobile phone service remained suspended throughout the day. Over 55 mobile cameras connected to a central control room were installed at different spots in Multan district to keep secret eye on anti-social elements.

The historic 9th Muharram procession came out of Imambargah Mumtazabad. Out of total 81 processions, as many as 39 were brought out by the license holders while remaining 42 were historic ones. The participants of the processions carried out self flagellation with sharp knives mounted on chains, swords and blades besides beating their chests.

Meanwhile, the historic Ustadwala and Shagirdwala tazias were also been put on display at Inside Pak Gate and Khooni Burj respectively.

The Ustadwala tazia is 200 years old while Shagirdwala 70. Similarly, the other historic tazias of Multan including Pir Laal Bukhsh, Kiri Patolian, Allah Bukhshwala and others were also put on display.

They day past peacefully as no untoward incident took place. The district administration said that the routes of the Moharram 10 processions were being swept with the help of sniffing dogs and latest explosive-detection gadgets. Similarly, Army and Rangers will also be available in case of any emergency.

Meanwhile, the police have declared over 100 spots sensitive for Youm-e-Ashur in Multan. Police sources said that additional force will be deployed at 50 highly sensitive spots today.  

Similarly in Sheikhupura, Alm and Zuljinnah processions of Muharram 9th after passing through main routes concluded at Darbar-e-Hussain on Thursday. The mourners were reciting Marsia to pay tribute to martyrs of Karbla incident. Tight security measures were adopted by the law enforcement agencies as helicopter hovered over the city to keep a watch on unscrupulous elements.

In NOORPUR THAL, dozens of Zuljinnah and Alam processions were taken out in the city and adjoining areas amid strict security here on 9th on Muharram.

People set up Sabeels and distributed Niaz to mourners. Police had made strict security to avoid any untoward incident. The routes of processions were closed for traffic and passersby. Policemen were deployed along the routes and on rooftops of buildings. SDPO Naveed Mumtaz visited procession routes to check security arrangements.

Ashura processions culminated peacefully after passing through their routes across Thal. Addressing the participants of the main procession, Ulema urged them to follow in the footsteps of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and his grandsons Hazrat Imam Hassan (RA) and Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) for success in this life and after here.

The main processions were taken out from Imam Bargah at Mohallah Hussainabad and from Imambargah at Rangpur, from Imambargah at Jamali and Imambargah at Chan Stop.

SDPO Rana Naveed Mumtaz visited various Imambargahs and directed the cops to make foolproof security arrangements.

Meanwhile, AC Ch Ehsan Ullah visited route of the main procession of Zuljina to review the security arrangement ahead of Ahsura here on Wednesday. TMO Azhar Khan, Chief Officer Malik Muhammad Ramzan, local Shia leaders and member of peace committee were also present on the occasion. On the occasion, the TMO briefed the AC regarding security arrangements. The AC directed the local administration to establish four new check-points in the city.
