One Direction is planning to take a two year hiatus rather than 12 months as initially thought. One Direction will go on a hiatus for two years. It was first thought that Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne would be taking a break for a year but Liam has now revealed they plan to spend 24 months focusing on their own projects.

He shared to BBC Radio 1’s Greg James: ‘’Obviously we’re all going to take a break for a bit first and then consider where we are in the world. Then I just want to write songs. That’s been the most fun process out of this, except for touring, the writing of the songs.

‘’We’re going to come back, so there’s something to write for as well, for us and for other people. We haven’t really had time to write an album. Writing’s not really a job, it’s so much fun. We’ve always had to rush it, so it’s going to be nice for the next two years - I’m going to write a few songs and see what happens.’’ Meanwhile, Liam previously admitted the band are looking forward to really celebrating their success over the last five years during their break.

He explained: ‘’We have so much to celebrate, the great work our fans have done and how hard we’ve worked over the years. We haven’t really stopped to think or look at all the different things we’ve achieved. ‘You get told different things all the time but you kind of forget, which is sad. I want to sit down and go, ‘Woah, what just happened?’’’
