UMT’s convocation confers degrees upon 1466 students

LAHORE (PR): University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore held its 14th annual convocation at its Johar Town campus. As many as 1466 degrees were conferred upon the students in a number of disciplines. According to the press release, total 1,085 undergraduate and 381 postgraduate and 6 PhD degrees were given away among the students. Moreover, 38 gold medals, 14 Patron’s gold medals, 09 Rector’s silver medals, 09 Rector’s Academic Excellence Awards, 07 Rector’s awards for entrepreneurship and innovation, 08 gold medals in extracurricular activities, 08 certificates of excellence, 01 award in applied research, 05 awards for best research publication and 07 cash prizes of worth one million rupees were given away on the occasion of the annual convocation.

This year, the university management invited Ms. Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, the US Consul General Lahore as the guest of honor to the convocation. Bank Alfalah partners with Yayvo.com

KARACHI (PR): Bank Alfalah and Yayvo.com have signed a memorandum of understanding, allowing Bank Alfalah customers to conveniently purchase items from one of Pakistan’s biggest e-commerce stores, further enhancing the scope of e-commerce and digital payments in the country.

Yayvo.com will integrate Bank Alfalah’s payment gateway and power Bank Alfalah’s Orbit Mall for the bank’s loyalty customers, account and card holders. Under this agreement, Bank Alfalah customers will be also able to redeem Orbit reward points and also use Bank Alfalah Accounts and Credit Cards on the revamped Orbit Mall.

In addition to providing ease of payment and quick delivery, this will greatly enhance the range of items customers can purchase with their reward points and other payment instruments, as well as opening up many more avenues of collaboration in the future.

Competition winners to visit China

ISLAMABAD (PR): The global technology leader, Huawei recently held the regional and national finals of the ICT Skills Competition 2017. During the regional finals, the top 150 participants from three regions; North, South and Central, participated in the online tests, which were held at designated HAINA Test Centers. Each of these 150 contestants was given souvenirs and giveaways from Huawei.

After a transparent screening process through computers, the top 50 students were selected for the National Finals of this competition, which were held in Lahore and Karachi on 9th of November. The finals in Islamabad were held on 13th November 2017. The exam centers chosen for the National round were; Huawei ICT academies, University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore, NED University Karachi and COMSATS Islamabad.

Lab exam environment was prepared for 50 students, by the HAINA academies, to evaluate and select the contestants. Through the National Final, the top 6 out of 50 participants were be chosen to qualify for the International Final, which will be held in Shenzhen China, in early December 2017. The winners will be given exciting prizes, mobile phones, Huawei certification, vouchers and a fully paid tour of Huawei Headquarters in China. Students qualifying in the Regional and National finals have also received exciting prizes and giveaways.

ISLAMABAD (PR): Telenor Pakistan is enhancing the scope of its services portfolio by roping in Swedish technology company Truecaller to provide Telenor users a customized, pro version of the Truecaller application. The app will improve calling experience of Telenor users by helping them restrict spam calls and messages.

Truecaller is a global crowd-sourced telephone directory app with special caller ID feature that will enable Telenor users to identify unknown calls and messages and blockthem at will. Spam calls, which are approximated at more than 3 million per month, are a major inconvenience for mobile users in Pakistan.

Under the agreement, a six months free trial of Truecaller Pro will be launched in Pakistan to provide upgraded and ad-free experience to Telenor users. Every user will be able to generate up to 30 invitations to friends and family who are yet to try the application. Furthermore, the users can download Truecaller and receive a unique app version with integrated Telenor Menu allowing activation of Data plans (daily and weekly packages) directly from the phone. Existing Truecaller users can upgrade to the new version directly from within the application.

determined to launch hospital by Dec-end

LAHORE (PR): A group of PKLI&RC’s key envoys including nursing, medical and management staff, led by Dr Amer Yar Khan, medical director and acting chief operating officer, visited under-construction hospital site. The purpose was to review the commissioning plan regarding first phase of the hospital with the objective of synergizing the concept with the actual project progress.

During visit, Dr Amer Yar Khan stated that the construction work on the project remains in progress round the clock. The hospital’s management, in line with the vision of CM Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Prof Dr Saeed Akhter (President & CEO, PKLI&RC), is working tirelessly to inaugurate the first phase of the hospital on December 25th, this year.

Dr Amer highlighted that PKLI&RC Hospital is the first hospital in the country being built on JCI Standards (international standards for healthcare). He hoped that PKLI&RC will become a role model in the region where state-of-the-art treatment facilities for Kidney and Liver related diseases will be provided initially and rest of the departments will be functional gradually. PKLI&RC has become a reality with the tremendous help and ownership of Government of the Punjab and will ensure to provide quality treatment to patients without any discrimination. The hospital has already been playing a leading role in Hepatitis Control program of Government of the Punjab and has been an active contributor of hepatitis ordinance promulgated recently in Provincial Assembly of Punjab.
