FAISALABAD-Under the arrangements of District Health Authority, an awareness walk was held on World Diabetes Day.

The walk was started from District Council Chowk and culminated at Katcheri Bazar Chowk after passing through Khaleeq Qureshi Chowk and Faisalabad Press Club.

The participants walk carrying banners and placards inscribed with the slogans to adopt precautionary measures against diabetes. Speaking on the occasion, speakers said that the aim of observing the World Diabetes Day was to create awareness among the people regarding protection against diabetes. They said that due to diabetes, the human body has to undergo other complications.

They said precautionary measures were useful to control diabetes. They said that cure was important in diabetes rather it is the most important part of the treatment.

They said that the use of balanced food, regular walk and exercise could help protect against the disease. They said that positive results can be achieved with the role of media for creating awareness among the people about diabetes. They said that protection against diabetes and the measures for controlling the disease were among the priorities of the District administration and in the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals.

They said that signs and symptoms of diabetes are excessive passing of urine and polyphagia like more appetite, general weakness, weight loss, body aches while disease complications included gangrene of hands or feet, affects on brain, heart, kidneys and blood vessels. They said that reasons behind the rise of diabetes are use of increasing trend of junk and fast food, soft drinks, smoking, overweight, obesity, physical inactivity, stress and depression and lack of periodic checkup of blood sugar level. The walk was led by Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani. District Health Authority CEO Zafar Abbas, DHOs Asif Shehzad, Dr Asfand Yar, doctors, paramedical staff, lady health workers and representatives of civil society participated in the walk.
