Peshawar - Capital city police on Sunday busted a three-member gang, comprising two foreigners, who used to snatch mobile phones from people and later smuggle the same to Afghanistan.
Briefing journalists here on Sunday, SP Cantt Zunair Ahmed Cheema said that two of the arrested men belong to Afghanistan and that 66 stolen phones had been recovered from the arrestees.
It merits a mention here that the arrests were made after the police interrogated one Saleem who had been arrested in a police encounter recently. Later, on his pointation, the police arrested his two other accomplices in recent actions.
Besides Saleem, the gang comprised an IT expert Arif Jamil, who changes the IEMEs of the snatched mobile phones and later the third accomplice identified as Obaidur Rehman who smuggles the phones to Afghanistan.
The cops also recovered Rs9,25000 cash, three laptops, an iPad and a vehicle used in snatching incidents.
In addition, the police also recovered 66 mobile phones from the arrested men, including the one phone that had been snatched from a man who had also been killed in the incident in Peshawar city on August 14 this year.
