ISLAMABAD - The Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf has taken serious notice of the current power crisis in the country and fired a number of operational heads of PEPCO due to their inefficiency and mismanagement. The Minister took this decision while presiding over an emergent meeting to review the current power situation here Tuesday in the Ministry. The Adviser to Ministry of Water and Power, Additional Secretary, MD Pepco and senior officials of the Ministry and PEPCO participated. The Minister observed that there was no room for the incompetent and unproductive officials in the operation department of Pepco. He directed the Pepco officials to inject new blood in the operation division and immediately reshuffle the deadwood. Targets should be given to the operational heads to improve the distribution system and there should be no reports of forced outages and unscheduled load-shedding. He also warned the higher hierarchy of Pepco that performance of the Pepco officials would be strictly monitored on a regular basis and more changes were likely to be made in the near future. The Minister also instructed the Pepco to work on a war footing to combat the load-shedding crisis in the country. He also directed to take steps to improve the generation of thermal units and IPPs.
