PESHAWAR - Following probe into NATO supply containers duty-free clearance scandal, the investigation team has asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Customs Collectorate to provide three-year record of the clearance certificates. It is pertinent to mention here that anomalies were reported in over 900 NATO supply containers, wherein certificates were issued at border sans duty. After surfacing of the scam, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue constituted a committee for investigating the matter. The committee visited KP and recorded statements of Customs Collectorate and officials of Customs at Torkham Border and some traders so far. In the wake of these investigations, the committee has sought record of cross-border certificates issued from January 2008 to June 2010 by the concerned Customs officials at Torkham and Chaman border for NATO Supply Containers. Taking strict note of the duty-free issuance of clearance certificates, the Government has declared signatures of concerned officials a must on these certificates. Sources in the Customs Collectorate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told TheNation that details of certificate issuance from 2008 to 2010 were being collected and would be sent to the investigation committee in two days.
