ISLAMABAD  - Aiming high to keep terrorists and militants at bay during Eid days, the Islamabad police on Monday finalized a security plan to guard life and properties of citizens of the city during the Eid holidays.

According to the security plan drafted by the chief of ICT police, as many as 2,000 policemen will be deputed to provide security cover to 685 mosques and 40 Imambargahs.

"These worship places will be covered by armed guards and policemen during Eid ul Azha prayers. The policemen would also patrol various sectors and police-in-charges of all circles would ensure proper security at the Eid congregations in various locations," said a spokesperson of ICT police while talking to this scribe on Monday. In the meanwhile, a press note issued from the office of IGP stated that the city police chief has directed the  police to remain on high alert and fully prepared to avert any untoward situation during Eid days.

According to the security plan, more than 875 policemen, 15 teams of ATS Commandos and 1140 private guards would perform security duties on Eid and patrol in various sectors.

Police pickets will be set up at key points in the city to ensure effective checking while special police deployment would be made at Faisal Mosque on Eid day and walk through gates as well as scanners would be installed as a part of security measure.

All Sub Divisional Police Officers and Station House Officers would be responsible of the security around worship places. They may be provided additional force on their request for the effective patrolling and security at Eid congregations in various sectors. The mobile officers and police guard posted at Mosques, Imambargahs, public/picnic places will take notice of the beggars hovering around the premises and will take legal action against them. Special focus is to ensure safety to properties and stop incidents of theft and car lifting during Eid holidays.

Meanwhile, Acting SSP Islamabad Traffic Police told media that his force has constituted a special deployment plan and markets as well as shopping areas will be manned by traffic officials to regulate the traffic and ensure planned parking.

The traffic police deployment in shopping areas, markets will be augmented while the patrol cars and pairs will patrol in their respective areas to facilitate the general public.

He said that the ITP has devised a special traffic plan for Eidul Azha and assigned 240 police personnel to perform duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.
