HNPIP sitting discusses court reporting

LAHORE - Speakers at a seminar on ‘Media and Court Reporting Imperatives’ at HNPIP Auditorium on Monday, stressed 
impartial court reporting could help dispense speedy justice.
Justice (r) Fakhrunnisa Khokhar presided over the sitting while former Punjab advocate general Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Lahore College for Women Wapda Town Communication Department head Hareema Tariq and Daily Nawa-i-Waqt Court Report F H Shahzad spoke on the occasion.  HNPIP Director Absar Abdul Ali was the moderator. The speakers misreporting results into chaos thus reporters should be more vigilant. They also called for training court reporters.
They said the government should not create hurdle to doing court reporting. “The media should develop a system of self-censorship. The true picture of society in the media reports will help the courts decide disputes.
Ashtar Ausaf also highlighted the role of court reporting, saying that court reporting was as important as the hearings.  He said that the court reporters must be trained about court terminologies so that they could report the events and court proceedings well.  Moreover, the speakers jointly held the media house owners should not suppress information just to manage advertisements otherwise impartial reporting would be a distant dream.
