LAHORE - An Election Tribunal on Monday fined National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq with Rs 5000 over his failure to submit a reply on a plea moved by Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan seeking vote recount in Lahore's NA-122.

According to media reports, the tribunal was irked at Ayaz Sadiq's failure to respond despite a number of notices issued to him in this regard.

The hearing was adjourned to Oct 22 with the tribunal giving Sadiq a last chance to file a response over the rigging allegations.

Imran Khan had lost the NA-122 seat to Sadiq in the general election of May 11.

In his appeal,Imran Khan had alleged that Ayaz Sadiq's victory was a result of poll rigging and fake votes.

He had requested the Election Tribunal to get the vote recount in the constituency by verification of thumb impressions of voters with assistance from the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
