ISLAMBAD - For the upcoming election to the Supreme Court Bar Association, three candidates are in the run for the top slot, Amanullah Kanrani, Kamran Murtaza and Rab Nawaz Raja.

A tough competition is expected between Kanrani and Kamran.

According to sources, Muhammad Sadiq Hidayatullah from Sindh and Sardar Hussain from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been elected vice presidents unopposed. Also, Raja Muqsit Nawaz Khan for the seat of additional secretary, and Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan for the position of secretary finance have also been elected unopposed.

Three candidates – Asif Mehmood Cheema, Azmat Ullah Chaudhry and Muhammad Aslam Pervez Mian – will be vying for the slot of secretary.

As far as the positions of vice presidents are concerned, there are two candidates from Punjab Rana Naeem Sarwar and Shah Abbas Iqbal Mian, two from Balochistan Abdullah Kakar and Jahanzaib Khan Jadoon, Sardar Hussain from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Muhammad Sadiq Hidayatullah from Sindh.

Over 2,200 members of the bar have also to elect the executive committees of all the four provinces.

This time 10 candidates from Punjab, for the executive committee Punjab, are in the run, four each from Sindh and KPK, and five from Balochistan.

According to the rules of the SCBA, two candidates each would be elected from the four provinces, while six would come on merit, bringing the total number of 14 elected candidates for the executive committee.

Prior to the elections, bar’s annual general meeting would take place on October 26 in Lahore under incumbent SCBA President Mian Israrul Haq. All the members of the bar association would attend this meeting, where Secretary Raja Javed Iqbal would present the annual general performance report of the bar, while Finance Secretary Qari Abdul Rasheed would give details about the annual budget report.

Additional Secretary Sardar Abdul Majeed Khan would highlight the salient features of the construction of lawyers’ hostel and complex at the meeting.
