Olympic medallist Snick fails drug test

BRUSSELS - Belgian judoka Charline Van Snick, a bronze medal winner from the 2012 London Olympics, revealed on Monday that she returned a positive test for cocaine during the world championships in Rio last August where she also won bronze. “I received a letter informing me that a banned substance had been found in one of my urine samples, metabolites of cocaine,” Van Snick told Belgian public radio station RTBF. “The news stunned me, because I am very careful with this, and I really have a perfect lifestyle. I have never taken any substance that can improve my performance. Not intentionally anyway,” she said. The 23-year-old Belgian, who faces a two-year suspension and the loss of her medal in the lightweight category from Rio is now awaiting the results of the B sample.–AFP
