ISLAMABAD  - Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Dr Iftikhar Ahmad has stressed the need for collective efforts to devise a mechanism for transfer of new innovations and knowledge to the end-users to make the agriculture profitable as well as for enhancing production of agriculture to ensure food security.
He was presiding over a high level meeting with Country Director, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), Dr.Abdul Majeed, Director General Agency for Barani Area Development (ABAD) Punjab, Member (NRD) PARC Dr. Nadeem Amjad and senior Scientists. Iftikhar Ahmed said it was PARC’s policy to work in closed collaboration with the provincial partners like ABAD.
It was agreed during the meeting that PARC and ABAD would enter into MoU shortly to outline the mutual efforts to achieve the broader objectives of rural livelihood improvement through efficient utilization of harvested waters.
DG ABAD appreciated the PARC research activities in Fatehjang whereby storage of existing dam was efficiently utilized through solar pumping irrigation system by using various smart technologies.
He further stated that under present severe energy and water crisis, such pilot scale work of PARC is well-timed and highly needed to improve and promote diversified high value agriculture in Potohar region of Punjab province.
He requested the Chairman PARC to provide technical backstopping to
ABAD in up-scaling of Fetehjang Model of PARC in the target region so that benefits of PARC work can multiplied.
Chairman PARC assured that full support of PARC to ABAD in terms of up-scaling of Fetehjang Model and improved rainwater harvesting and watershed management aspects.
