Facing huge challenges resulting from the outbreak of the poliovirus, the government failed to control the virus once more. 202 cases were reported from across Pakistan this year. Government has failed completely in mounting an adequate response and formulating a long-term policy to see a polio-free Pakistan. Moreover, polio workers are not being paid well and security threats to workers and international organizations have not been addressed. A few months ago, the WHO imposed travel restrictions on Pakistani citizens, to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to other countries. Thus, Pakistan needs to concentrate on eliminating polio and making it a polio-free country. In spite of the pressing ‘in-house’ priorities of the government at this hour, nothing is more important than working towards rehabilitating Pakistan’s image in the eyes of other nations.
