KHYBER - To promote local art and culture, a Pashto mushaira was held here at local press club on Sunday.
Scores of Pashto poets gathered at the literary gathering organised under the banner of Landi Kotal press club.
Poets in their poetic pieces stressed the need for highlighting and projecting different aspects of local art and culture in addition to current situation. Around 25 local Pashto poets participated in the event.
Assistant Commissioner Landi Kotal sub-division Muhammad Imran was the chief guest while noted Pashto poet Yar Hussain Sahel Afridi presided over the event.
Addressing the function, AC Muhammad Imran said that poets and writers were reflector of their society and were the only ones who protected art and culture. He maintained that Hamza Baba library would be soon made functional to serve the literate and assured the local poets every possible assistance to boost their literary activities.
AC appreciated the noble efforts of the press club and said the media persons beside their professional duties played an active role in initiating extra-activities for the betterment of locals that was a good omen.
Prominent poets who took part in the mushaira including Dr Tawab Shah Masroor, Naamdar Afridi, Nisar Afkar, Haris Shinwari, Sameen Pathan, Habibullah, Meenwal Shinwari and recited their poetic pieces and received great applause from the audience. Senior journalist Khalil Jibran who conducted the mushaira and also live telecasted it on social media in the area said that poets always addressed masses grievances through their poems and writings.
