Despite the opposition parties’ boycott in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly on Monday, to protest against the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, the assembly passed a surplus budget for fiscal year 2018-19.
According to the details, the total expenditure of the introduced budget was Rs648 billion. The KP government has estimated that the expenditures for this year would be around Rs618 billion, whereas Rs180 billion would be earmarked for the developmental projects across province.
Rupees five billion has been announced for providing interest-free loans to youth and skill development projects. The provincial government also plans to extend the ‘Sehat Insaaf Card’ scheme to another 80,000 families. During the assembly’s session, lawmakers from PML-N chanted slogans and protested against the arrest of Shehbaz Sharif. Later, the opposition led by PML-N, staged a walkout.
