This with reference to the rhetoric of our leaders that "every inch of our homeland will be protected". When President Zardari was uttering these words on 9th September 2008, American drones were attacking civilian targets in Miranshah. Since then, President Bush has declared that his forces will hit more targets in Pakistani territory. On 11th September 2008, we were listening to the statement of COAS Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani claiming his forces will guard the borders of Pakistan resolutely against any enemy aggression. The very next day, American fighter planes were seen flying freely in our airspace in Chitral, Bajaur and Dir. That was the day US made another strike in Pakistan. I wonder if America is not our enemy, then who is? I wonder why we are keeping an army, why we are buying F-16 fighter planes and why we are a nuclear state? -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, via e-mail, September 11.
