Naveed Malik, once a close associate of late Benazir Bhutto, has stated that the will Asif Ali Zardari produced after her assassination is fake. He claimed in a press statement that Ms Bhutto, in her signatures, always spelled her name with a single 't' instead of double. Graphologists can easily verify about the veracity of the will. They can tell if the signatures were indeed hers and that she wrote the document herself. Since Mr Zardari is the sole beneficiary of this will, the PPP stalwarts must insist upon verifying its authenticity so that they can satisfy the public. Only referring the Bhutto murder case to UNO will not lay the matter at rest. If an old associate like Naveed Malik smells a rat in the will, there are others, which will raise doubts about other matters. Mr Zardari is in run for the highest office of the land. It is befitting for him to clear the lingering doubts about himself by speaking on record about this. It might not satisfy all cynics, but it would surely satisfy many. Ms Bhutto's will is, in fact, a crucial document and it must be made public. -MIRZA TUFTAN BAIG, Lahore, via e-mail, September 1.
