ISLAMABAD - A senior leader of Pakistan People's Party and former Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah said Monday that the recently inaugurated tunnel at the Attabad Lake near Gilgit was the brain-child of the former-President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The PPP leader said that the former President had not only initiated the project but had also convinced the Chinese president to facilitate Pakistan in the construction of the tunnel.

Mehdi went on to say that the Pakistan People's Party, under the leadership of Zardari, had made historic contributions to the development work of Gilgit Baltistan.

He also said that it was satisfying to see that the project envisioned by the PPP had been inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
