MANDI BAHAUDDIN

The Punjab government's step to sanction various developmental schemes in the run-up to local bodies elections is tantamount to pre-poll rigging. PPP District Secretary Hassan Aslam Warriach alleged that local MNAs and MPAs, belonging to the ruling party, are doling out development funds to people of their liking to influence the voters. When asked to specify such distribution of funds, he said in his union council Shaheedanwali, MNA Mumtaz Tarar and MPA Hameeda Waheed had given funds to the tune of millions of rupees to would-be candidates for Nazim and Naib Nazim. He further alleged that the Punjab Government is also misusing local administration for winning voters in favour of PML-N ticket-holders. He appealed to the election commission to take notice of this violation of election rules and initiate action against MNAs and MPAs for "what he called indulging" in pre-poll rigging.
