QUETTA - Unknown gunmen kidnapped the general manager of Balochistan Development Authority (BDA), Bacha Khan, along with five other officers on Monday on a day when another 26 Ba;och militants laid down their weapons.

Security sources said that unknown militants stopped the vehicle of BDA officials in Nasai area of Killa Saifullah district of Balochistan and abducted them. The kidnapped officials were inspecting an under construction road in the area when they were picked up by miscreants.

A search operation has been launched in the area to recover the abducted officers but so far neither any official is recovered nor any suspect apprehended.

In Naushki, some 26 ‘militants’ laid down their weapons in as part of the present government’s reconciliation policy.

A security official said that all the ‘militants’ belonged to banned outfits.

“Most of them belonged to the banned Baloch Republican Army ,” he said.

The militants, who laid down weapons, announced their intent to rejoin society and live peaceful lives while assuring officials that they would work for development and prosperity of the country.

On August 14, 2015, 400 militants laid down their weapons during a ceremony to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day. The government of Balochistan had announced a reconciliation policy earlier this year to pave the way for solutions on issues relating to the province which has been under the grip of violence for over a decade.

On the other hand, Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel arrested three suspected terrorists from Gwadar district while two were apprehended in Panjgur district. The Gwadar operation was launched on a tip-off from intelligence agencies.

According to sources, the detained terrorists are involved in grenade attacks and several cases of target killings. They have been shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.

The law enforcement personnel have stepped up operations in the area to ensure security of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects that will connect Pakistan s southern Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea to China s western Xinjiang region.

Separately, the FC spokesperson said that an operation was carried out in Naag Gharari area of Panjgur district and two extremists were arrested.
