Have we ever considered why we Pakistanis are not a unified nation on any issue whatsoever? In my opinion, there is one major reason for this. It is the lack of a uniform education system with clear and defined national goals and requirements. Time and again, many sensitive spirits have reminded the nation of the importance of a uniform educational system to achieve the national goals of progress, prosperity and solidarity. But these suggestions have proved a cry in the wilderness. Those who are at the helm of public affairs are not ready to pay heed to this core issue. -TARIQ MAHMOOD HASHMI, Lahore, via e-mail, April 4.
