LAHORE - The PML-N is all set to hold its central working committee (CWC) and parliamentary party meetings today (Thursday) at Punjab House, Islamabad, with a mindset to politely decline PPPs offer for rejoining the centre. PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, who returned Lahore from Duabi on Wednesday, will head both the meetings. Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif and all the members of CWC and parliamentary party will attend the meetings. Sources said that the PML-N leadership had already made up its mind to turn down the federal governments offer of rejoining the centre as the party believed that the time was not ripe to do the same. The party leaders held the view that PPP-led coalition government was surrounded by problems on internal and external fronts and it would be difficult for the ruling party to cope with these crises and eventually its government would fall sooner or later, the sourced maintained. They suggested the PML-N leadership to adopt wait and see policy on the pretext that unless steps regarding implementation of Charter of Democracy, repealing of 17th Amendment and condition of third time prime minister, and abrogation of 58 (2)B were not taken, the party would refrain from joining the centre. However, the sources said that both the meetings would deliberate the pros and cons of rejoining the federal government, current political situation, Swat peace accord, Balochistans mayhem and party restructuring from top to bottom. When contacted PML-N secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, he dispelled the impression that the purpose behind the meetings was to deliberate the rejoining of federal government. He said the meetings would take into account the current political situation, terrorism, new Obama policy, drone attacks and reorganisation of the party. It may be recalled that after Prime Minister Gilani formally invited PML-N to join centre during his meeting with Shahbaz, the PML-N had to call both the meetings to hammer out consensus whether it is right time to join the PPP-led government in centre or not. It is also worth mentioning that Nawaz Sharif had held a voting session on last Friday to seek the opinion of party workers about rejoining the PPP-led govt at and vice versa in Punjab. The session was held at Sharifs Raiwind residence. Majority of the party workers voted against the joining of federal govt, it is reported. They also opposed possible inclusion of the PPP in the Punjab govt.
