ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned hearing of the 18th Amendment case till third week of May subject to availability of the bench. The hearing of the 18th Amendment case was adjourned due to the reasons that Civil Review Petition No 129 of 2010 etc (NRO matters) had already been fixed before the full court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry which are likely to be taken on April 18. Further, a three member bench headed by the chief justice will also resume hearing of the presidential reference on April 18. As a result, the chief justice adjourned the 18th Amendment case for date in office till third week of May. A larger bench on October 22, 2010, had announced the interim short order after hearing the petitions challenging 27 provisions of the 18th Amendment for four months The court had referred the new mechanism for appointment of superior court judges introduced under Article 175-A of the 18th Amendment to parliament for reconsideration and adjourned the 18th Amendment case till third week of January 2011.
