Cameraman manhandled

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE A senior cameraman of a state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) Muhammed Yousaf was severely manhandled on Friday by a number of unknown persons allegedly employees of a local newspaper and private media group. The cameraman along with a PTV team making footage of encroachments built in front of the media offices here at the Davis Road. According to the PTV Lahore centre office bearers, Muhammed Yousaf was performing his official duty at Davis Road where the media group offices were located. They further stated Muhammad Yousuf and his team were assigned a special duty to make a comprehensive report on encroachments and hurdles in smooth flow of traffic. Yousuf had taken shots of various spots and he was also taking footage nearby the local media group. When he reached the place located near the offices of the group and started taking photos of the encroachments on the road, some persons displaying official batches arrived there and started beating him, they added. They also snatched camera and other equipment from Muhammed Yousaf and took out the film from the camera. Meanwhile, some passerby intervened and rescued the cameraman. Later, an application was submitted by Yousuf against unknown persons for registration of FIR in Civil Lines Police Station, where the job was done against the private media group. A senior employee of the PTV said an FIR (335/11) under sections 379, 506 and 186 of Pakistan Penal Code has been lodged against the office bearers of the private media group.
