OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Punjab Labour Minister Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi has asked the political workers to raise awareness about labourers rights and work for elimination of bonded labour, child labour and exploitation of 'bhatta mazdoors. Addressing a gathering organised by PML-N labour wing at party office on Friday, he said that the government had introduced labour welfare reforms and was giving top priority to eliminate the menace of bonded labour at brick kilns and child labour from the province. Qureshi said that steps were underway to eradicate these evils and the department was launching extension of elimination of bonded labour at brick kilns projects in eight additional districts. He said that Punjab government was implementing various projects for providing modern education to the children of labourers and residential facilities to them. He said that a labour colony consisting of 1,296 houses at a cost of Rs 2,177 million was being constructed for the workers in the City. He said that free education including books, stationery, transport and uniform were also being provided to 28,000 children of workers at 46 workers welfare schools in the province. He said that Welfare Board was bearing all educational expenses of the children of workers in those six districts of the Punjab where workers welfare schools were not existed. He urged the NGOs to launch public awareness campaign through holding seminars.
