HAFIZABAD - The Traffic Police in the district have virtually failed to prevent operation of vehicles emitting smoke, plying without number plates, with revolving lights and without valid licenses.

The traffic police in the district had been directed time and again by the administration to remove encroachments from roads particularly from busy chowks but the traffic police least bothered to remove them, causing traffic hazards on most of the city thoroughfares. When contacted In-charge Traffic Police Ghulam Meran said that an ASI and two constables had been deputed to remove encroachments with the cooperation of TMA staff. He assured that violators of traffic rules would be dealt with sternly.

He said that traffic police in the district was realising fine of over Rs1.8 million from about five hundred traffic violators every month.
