HAFIZABAD - Although electioneering has yet to get momentum for the not-too-far general elections, most of the candidates, irrespective of their party affiliations, have been persuading different Traders Associations and Biradaris to muster their support.

Biradarism, particularly in rural areas, has always played a vital role in the victory of candidates in previous elections. However, in urban areas, popularity graph of the PPP and PML-N remained 50/50. However, over the past five years, the PPPP popularity has suffered a dent due to failure of the party government.

Presently, the graph of PML-N and PTI has been increased in the urban areas. The PTI and PPP have failed to field any strong candidate in any of the five NA and PP constituencies. Though a clear picture will emerge after the final list of the candidates and allotment of symbols yet according to political pundits there would be neck and neck fight between the candidates of PML-N and independent candidates being backed by Ch Mehdi Hassan Bhatti group. The PTI and JI candidates can, however, surprise any of the group.

About 93 politicians had filed their nomination papers to contest elections from all the five constituencies in the district. After scrutiny still, 72 candidates are in the field i.e 13 in NA-102, 11 in NA-103, 23 in PP-105, 06 in PP-106, 19 in PP-107. After the finalisation of appeals, the number of candidates might be increased or decreased.

As many as 471 polling stations have been set up where 5,43, 649 registered voters would use their right of franchise on May 11.
