LAHORE/KARACHI/ISLAMABAD - In a severe blow to the PPP, appeal against rejection of ex-PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf’s nomination papers for NA 51, Gujjar Khan, has been turned down on account of “him not being righteous and sagacious”.

A two-member tribunal comprising Justice Rauf Ahmed Sheikh and Justice Mahmoon Ahmed Sheikh of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench rejected the nomination papers of Raja.

A Returning Officer of Gujar Khan had rejected the nomination papers of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for awarding a contract to the National Logistic Cell (NLC) without meeting legal formalities and his involvement in Rental Power Projects (RPPs).

“Former PM and PPP candidate appointed his two son-in-laws on high posts which are the glaring examples of nepotism, favoritism and naked corruption,” the RO told the tribunal.

Sheikh Zameer said that Raja has been declared “not sagacious and righteous” by Islamabad High Court (IHC) and has been issued a notice by the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case.

Former law minister Farooq H Naek, the counsel for Raja, argued that the single-member bench of IHC had laid down its verdict without hearing him. “Terming Raja Pervaiz Ashraf not sagacious and righteous were mere observations of the honourable judge of IHC,” Naek added.

Furthermore, another Election Tribunal dismissed all appeals against Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif and cleared them for contesting elections from Lahore.

Nawaz Sharif will contest elections from NA-120 Lahore, while Shahbaz Sharif will contest election from PP-161 Lahore.
