ISLAMABAD – Bangladesh High Commission here celebrated Bangla New Year 1420 with enthusiasm and festivity.Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Pakistan Suhrab Hossain formally inaugurated the daylong cultural, food, handicrafts and book exhibition programmes at the chancery. Welcoming the guests, he highlighted the importance of Bangla New Year in the lives of the people of Bangladesh.Diplomats from different missions in Islamabad, members from Pakistani civil society and expatriate Bangladeshis attended the programme. The chancery premises were decorated with colourful banners, balloons and other materials depicting Bangladeshi culture and heritage. Food and handicraft stalls were also set up.Jaatra, a traditional drama, was staged by the high commission officials written and directed by the Deputy High Commissioner Md Jashim Uddin. The amateur actors performed the drama, which enthralled the audiences. Bangladeshi style foods, traditional rice cakes, snacks and sweets were served to the guests. The day’s events received huge appreciation from the attendees.
