LAHORE - Punjab took a dazzling start in the International Women Cycling Championship by winning both the gold at stake on the opening day here on Monday at cycling velodrome.

Punjab female riders struck unmatched form and fitness laced with superior technique to win the 500m time trial and three kilometre individual pursuit. In the 500 time trial, Alvina of Punjab took the gold with a timing of 48s.43p. Behind her was Sidra of HEC followed by Asma from Sindh.

Punjab ace rider Alvina led her side to the second gold by clocking 5m.32s.81p in the 3km individual pursuit. Asma of HEC claimed the second place while Asma from Sindh took the third position. Mehwish Iqbal of HEC and Ramna Liaquat of Punjab qualified for the 1000m sprint. In one kilometer team sprint, HEC and Punjab qualified.  Provincial Minister for Sports and Health Salima Hashmi inaugurated the event and graced the opening ceremony. Today (Tuesday), two road events will be held at DHA Phase VIII and one track event will take place at velodrome.
