LAHORE – A youth died after taking Tyno syrup at a wedding party in the Shahdara police area.

Police said deceased, identified as Zohaib Jamal from Sahiwal, arrived in the City to attend a wedding party at Wandala Road. The family told the police that Zohaib’s condition got deteriorated after he took Tyno syrup. He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him as dead.

Last year, the provincial government had imposed a ban on the Tyno syrup after more than 16 people died as they had consumed the toxic syrup in Lahore.

PREMATURE BODIES: The bodies of two premature babies were recovered from the Gulshan Iqbal and Civil Lines police areas, respectively, police said on Monday.

An official of the Edhi Foundation told reporters that newborn baby was lying dead in front of a house on Fatima Jinnah Road as they reached the spot. Some passersby spoted the body and contacted the police.

Meanwhile, the dead body of another newborn girl was recovered from the Gulshan Iqbal police limits. The police handed over the bodies to the Edhi Foundation for burial and are investigating.

Separately, the City police on Monday registered a case against a man on the charges of electricity theft in the Kahna area. The officials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) contacted the police after they found a resident, Muhammad Ashraf, stealing electricity.

The accused, on the other hand, alleged that the Lesco staff had implicated him in a fake case for initiating a court proceeding against them. The police are investigating.
