SAHIWAL-Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif regretted that the police had failed to protect the life and honour of the masses and its system had collapsed. “It is the bounden duty of the police to have knowledge where crime is being committed, where gambling is taking place, where narcotics dens are and where outlaws and proclaimed offenders live? Shahbaz Sharif emphasised.
The Punjab CM was talking to the newsmen here at Chak no 81/5-R where he had come to express sympathies with the gang-rape victim here on Tuesday. Shahbaz Sharif pointed out that during the British rule there were horses and mules with police but in spite of limited resources they were well-aware of all affairs of the masses. Now the police are in possession of vehicles, modern weaponry and gadgets but oblivious to the crime taking place in its surroundings,” he drew a comparison, adding that it was worst type of negligence and indifference on the part of the police as they never bothered about any incident took place in their area.
Talking to the Punjab IG Police, the chief minister expressed his surprise that footage of the incident had spread not only in this village but in the entire province but it was astonishing that the police concerned were still unaware. On the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif ordered suspension of DSP Muhammad Akram Khan, SHO Jawad Afzal, Inspector Imdad Ali Khan Baloch and Sub-Inspector Jaffar with immediate effect and issued warning to DPO Syed Khurram Ali, ordering him to arrest the remaining accused within 48 hours, otherwise he would lost the right stay on the post. He also ordered to provide protection to the affected family.
Earlier CM Shahbaz Sharif visited the house of victim and got information regarding the incident. He said that the accused would be taken into custody and would be tried in Anti-Terrorism Court.
